The Term 'PTCL' :
'PTCL' stands for Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd, the largest telecoomunication company operated in Pakistan. It was launched in 1991.
Following are some of the basic operations/services being provided by this company
1: FixedTelephone Line under the brand of 'PTCL'
2: Mobile Gsm services under the brand of 'UFONE'
3: CDMA Services under the brand of 'PTCL Wireless'
4: Dsl Broadband and Dialup Internet services under the brand of 'PTCL DSL & Internet services'
5: Wireless internet under the brand of 'PTCL Evdo'
The Term 'EVDO' :
The Term 'Evdo' can be defined as Evolution-Data Optimized or Evolution-Data only, it is often abbreviated as EV-DO or EVDO
or in some conditions as EV.
EVDO in Detail :
Evdo is a wireless telecommunication standard, actually it is the advanced version of CDMA 2000[Often also recognized as (IS-2000) ].
The main purpose of the development of EVDO was to support high data rates of transfer, EVDO feature of CDMA 2000 network
provide speeds of upto 3.1Mbit/s(Downloading), while it can support the uploading at the maximum of 1.8Mbit/s.
USE Of EVDO:
It is typically used for broadband internet access.
EVDO in Pakistan:
Evdo in Pakistan was started with Worldcall Evdo services in Karachi at beta, which later didn't satisfied the needs of the customers, though still they are working
to ensure customer satisfaction and still no one have any idea on when they will came out of their beta mode.
Finally the long waited PTCL Evdo have finally launched their service accross major cities in Pakistan.
